Chimney Crown

Cement Mortar Crown

Application of crown seal

Before

After

The purpose of a crown is to shed water off the top of the chimney.   The crown shown in the before photo is damaged with visible cracks and sections missing.  The missing sections and cracks allow water and melting snow to enter the top section of your chimney.

CAUSE AND EFFECT

As the water freezes it expands and causes pressure within the chimney.  This pressure creates cracks in the chimney structure.  As the cracks become larger, more damage occurs.  This event happens during the freeze/thaw cycle.

As seen in the after photo, this chimney crown was repaired with a product designed to cover the existing chimney crown.  One application will cover the old crown and is guaranteed for ten years against cracking.
